Dataw Island
Dataw Island, nestled in the lowcountry along South Carolina's magnificent coastline, is one of the most successful private residential communities in America. With a proud 20-year history and 800+ homes, this secluded and gated 870-acre island is reached via causeway and surrounded by water and pristine marshes. Residents enjoy an island environment preserved with the live oaks and palmettos of the lowcountry, and enhanced by professional landscaping to bring out the colors and textures of the seasons.
Dataw residents enjoy a world-class clubhouse, a new fitness/community center, two outstanding 18-hole golf courses, tennis and croquet courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a full-service marina, and a broad array of clubs and other activities to satisfy any interest. Dataw is a community of active, caring people with diverse interests who enjoy a rich and rewarding lifestyle in a unique place they call home.
Dataw Boasts two superlative golf courses. Dataw's first golf course, Cotton Dike, was designed by the artful hand of Tom Fazio. The course was coaxed from the marshes by a series of dikes intended to create more land for cotton fields during the great plantation days of Dataw Island. The 18 holes of Cotton Dike require strategy and accuracy, and in return provide an enduring golfing experience with a variety of interesting challenges. Nearly half of the 18 holes lie along the pristine marsh or waters of Jenkins Creek.
Morgan River, Dataw's second 18-hole course, is a striking example of the great talent of Arthur Hills. Narrower than Cotton Dike, the Morgan River course demands more accuracy but well rewards every disciplined shot. The beauty of the course is dramatic as it winds through the stands of massive oaks and frames water views of the Morgan River and the savannahs beyond.
